COL.S.A.C./Biblical Films in association with Smith side Productions presents the play "Pill Hill" written by Samuel Kelly and directed by NAACP Theater award
winner Lamont A. Coleman. Running Feb 21,22 at the Los Angeles Southwest College. Performing Arts Theater in Los Angeles, CA. Leading the cast is Christopher Shawn Smith and Tyler Perry's The Have and The Have Nots, Lamont A. Coleman (Reverend Waters).
With Chicago's disturbing real life drama dominating the headlines, this period piece adeptly reveals the long standing spiritual, economical, and social conditions that inevitably lead up to 70 shootings and 11 deaths in one weekend. In three acts, Pill Hill examines the failures, successes, and relationships of six ambitious black steel mill workers in Chicago as they aspire to transition from life in the ghetto to a house on Pill Hill. The time is 1973, 1978, and 1983, and the scene is a Chicago basement apartment where the characters meet to socialize over cards and drinks. Racial themes relating to the disparity of life at the steel mill versus the American dream, represented by the upscale Pill Hill neighborhood in Chicago, is presented as the Biblical question is asked, "What does it profit a man to gain the whole world, but lose his soul?" (Mark 8:36). NAACP nominee Christopher Shawn Smith teams up with NAACP winner Lamont A. Coleman, to lead a veteran stage ensemble cast that will make you laugh and cry but more importantly remind us all that tomorrow is not promised so live everyday with purpose, love and God!
